> Signing in with email and password, who can create an account, email codes, and light or dark appearance.

Go to [sydbar.app/sign-in](https://sydbar.app/sign-in):

1. Enter your email and choose **Continue**.
2. Enter your password and choose **Sign in**. New here? When sign-up is open, choose **Create your account** instead.

Passwords are at least 10 characters. **Continue** never reveals whether an account exists.

## Do I need Google?

No. Sydbar accounts use email and password. A **Continue with Google** button appears only on workspaces that have turned it on, and it follows the same access rules.

Connecting Gmail or Google Calendar to a business is separate from signing in. See [Connections](/docs/connections).

## Who can create an account

| Workspace | Who can sign up |
| --- | --- |
| Open | Anyone. |
| Private | Only addresses the owner has allowed. Anyone else sees "This workspace is private. Ask the owner for access." |

## Email codes

When the workspace has email set up, Sydbar sends 6-digit codes:

- **Confirm your address** after creating an account.
- **Forgot password?** sends a code to set a new password.

Codes last 15 minutes. Without email set up, there's no confirmation step and no self-serve reset; ask the workspace owner.

## Appearance

**Settings → Appearance**, or the menu on your avatar (top right):

- **Light**: white surfaces on a soft grey canvas.
- **Dark**: near-black surfaces, hairline borders.
- **Match system**: follows your computer's light or dark setting.

Sydbar opens in Dark until you choose. It applies to every business on that browser, and the sun and moon at the top of sydbar.app switch the site the same way.

**Words next to icons**, under the theme, turns off the labels beside icons once you know them: Refresh, the tag filters, the views in All inboxes and the names in the side bar show as icons alone. Hover an icon to see its name. It's saved for that browser too.
