> The three steps at /setup. Tell Sydbar about your business, check what it learned, bring in your email.

Each business starts at **Set up your business**. Sydbar greets you and walks through three steps: **Tell us about your business**, **Check what Sydbar learned**, **Bring in your email**. It takes about two minutes.

## 1. Tell us about your business

Pick a way to start:

| Start | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Talk it through | Record a voice note of up to 10 minutes and ramble. Your browser turns it into text, and Sydbar reads that. |
| Describe it | Type what the business is called and what it does. |
| Upload a doc | A .md or .txt file, up to 100 KB. |
| Paste notes | Paste anything you already have written. |
| Example | Fill in an example to see how it works. |

Documents are treated as information, never as instructions.

> **Tip: Talk it through**
> The voice note uses your browser's speech recognition (Chrome, Edge and Safari have it; Firefox doesn't). Some browsers send the audio to their own speech service to do this. Pause and resume as you like; the 10 minutes count across the whole note.
Then, in the same conversation:

- If your first message didn't name the business, Sydbar asks for its **Business name** (up to 80 characters). That's the only question. Replies come from the mailbox you connect in step 3, signed with your name.
- Add more context with **Upload Markdown** or **Paste context** (.md, .markdown or .txt, up to 100 KB each).
- Choose **Review what I found →**.

## 2. Check what Sydbar learned

Sydbar lists what it found, each with where it came from: Voice, Services, Payment terms, Context and Clients ("Add as you go"). Tick what's right.

**Default payment terms** can be edited here, for example "Net 14: due 14 days after the invoice date". Leave it blank and Sydbar asks on each invoice.

Choose **Continue**. Ticked facts are confirmed and unticked ones are dropped.

## 3. Bring in your email

Sydbar says what it will read before Google asks: your latest conversations with people and clients. Newsletters, notifications and promotions stay in your mailbox, and nothing is sent without you.

1. Pick how many of your latest conversations to bring in: 25, 50, 100 or 250.
2. Choose **Continue with Google**. Google may say it hasn't verified Sydbar yet; choose **Advanced**, then **Go to Sydbar**. Or choose **Use an app password instead** for iCloud, Yahoo and most other mail (Microsoft mailboxes can't connect yet).
3. Your inbox opens and fills in. When it's done, Sydbar suggests clients from the people it found. Choose **Add** for each one you work for: each becomes a client record, with its conversations beside it. Then choose **Open my inbox**.

**Skip for now** opens the workspace without email; connect later in **Settings → Connections**.
